Mina Komo — Auntie Mina
Mina Komo Author · Bible Teacher · Auntie Mina

This is the story of how I became Auntie Mina.

Almost seventy years of living boldly, loving deeply, and learning the hard lessons so you don't have to.

I didn't set out to become anyone's auntie. I set out to survive. And then to live. And then, somewhere along the way, to thrive.

"I exist at the intersection of faith, family, and intentional living — and I'm here to walk that journey with you." — Mina Komo, Auntie Mina

My Story

The war that shaped everything

I was a child during the Biafran war. If you know that history, you know what that means. If you don't, let me tell you: it means hunger that hollows you out. It means watching people you love disappear. It means learning, very young, that survival is not guaranteed and that faith is not a luxury — it is the only thing that keeps you standing when everything else falls apart.

That war taught me two things I carry to this day: first, that life is precious and fleeting, and you don't waste it on small fears. Second, that God shows up in the impossible places. I've seen it. I've lived it. And I've never forgotten.

"Faith wasn't something I inherited or adopted casually. It was forged in fire. It's the foundation of everything I am. And it's not the quiet, polite kind of faith. It's bold. It's daring."

Faith, choir, and finding my voice

After the war, I found my voice in the church choir. Not just my singing voice — though I loved to sing — but my real voice. The one that says: I'm here. I matter. I have something to offer. Music became my prayer, my therapy, my joy. It still is.

That bold faith is what booked a stadium. My friend Mary K and I had a vision: a Christmas gospel concert at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. A massive, beautiful celebration of faith and music. The problem? We had no budget. No sponsors. No connections. Just a dream and a prayer. We went to the venue anyway. We prayed. We asked. We believed. And somehow — in the way that only God can orchestrate — it happened.

We didn't fill the stadium. But we sang our hearts out under the stars, and it was glorious. That's who I am. I'm the woman who shows up with nothing but faith and makes something beautiful happen.

Careers, callings, and constant reinvention

I've been a microbiologist, peering into the hidden world of cells and bacteria. I've been a journalist, telling stories that needed to be told. I've been into computers and networking, staying current with technology. I've been a nurse, caring for bodies and souls. I've been an author, putting my thoughts and experiences into words. And now I'm licensed in insurance and real estate, helping people build wealth and security.

People ask me how I've done so many things in one life. The answer is simple: I never stopped being curious. I never stopped learning. And I never let fear of failure keep me from trying something new. Life is too short to stay in one box.

Motherhood and the art of letting go

I raised five children. Five beautiful, wonderful human beings. Being their mother was the sweetest, most rewarding thing I've ever done. I poured everything into them — my time, my energy, my heart. And then, one by one, they grew up and left. One left to another realm.

The empty nest hit me hard. Harder than I expected. For years, I was Mom. And then, suddenly, I wasn't — not in the same way. I had to figure out who Mina was when she wasn't needed every minute of every day. It was terrifying. And it was liberating.

That's when I started writing more. Sharing more. Stepping into this new chapter with the same boldness I brought to booking that stadium. I realized: I'm not done. Not even close. The bold, daring Mina is showing up for this next lap — and she's bringing all the wisdom, all the scars, all the joy with her.

Why I'm here

I'm here because I've lived long enough to know that wisdom is meant to be shared, not hoarded. I've made mistakes. I've learned lessons. I've survived things I didn't think I could survive. And I've thrived in ways I never imagined.

You don't have to live every hard lesson yourself. I already did. Let me be your Auntie Mina — the one who tells you the truth, who cheers you on, who reminds you that you're stronger than you think and more loved than you know.

Welcome to my world. Pull up a chair. Let's talk.
